A Message from the President |
Dear Adelphi Student:
In these rapidly changing and difficult economic times, Adelphi University has, because of our conservative fiscal management, fared better than many other schools. At the same time, just like in many families, economic realities must be faced. To meet these realities, the University has significantly reduced its operating budget in areas that do not compromise its commitment to academic excellence or student success, has increased institutional financial aid, and, with the approval of the Board of Trustees, has increased tuition and fee rates for the 2009-10 academic year by 3.9%
In planning for next year, the Board and University leadership were steadfastly focused on ensuring affordability while allowing the University to continue to meet its commitment to providing a high quality academic experience for all students. Please be assured that our tuition decision was guided by a desire to keep tuition at Adelphi University among the lowest for private universities in the area while continuing to invest in our students, faculty, and academic programs and enhancements. An example of our commitment to affordability is a 9% increase, to approximately $32,000,000, in institution-funded student financial aid this year, which will enable us to better meet the financial needs of our students.
In recent years, we have made significant investments in our academic programs to ensure they are of high quality, meet the diverse needs of 21st century students, and offer relevance in a changing world. We have made important investments in facilities and programs which have allowed us to achieve academic excellence through the attraction and retention of outstanding students and scholars. Recently constructed state-of-the-art facilities, our revamped and expanded Center for Career Services with an on-site internship coordinator, and enhancements to technology are enabling students to achieve a broad range of educational and professional goals. These investments will allow current and future students to receive the highest quality education in the region.
While these and other investments have made an Adelphi education a good value as evidenced by our designation from the Fiske Guide to Colleges as a “Best Buy” for three consecutive years, we understand you may have questions about tuition or new financial needs to bring to our attention. The staff of our Office of Student Financial Services is committed to assisting you, helping you access state, federal, and institutional aid for which you may qualify, and is available to answer any questions you may have. You can reach the office by phone at 516.877.3080 or by email at financialservices@adelphi.edu, or visit with an advisor in the lower level of Levermore Hall. Office hours and additional information can be found on the office’s website at, http://ecampus.adelphi.edu/sfs/. On this site you can also find a comprehensive listing of the 200910 tuition and fees, including room and board rates.
Over the past several years, we have made strategic decisions that have allowed us to prepare our students for a changing world. You have our commitment that we will do everything we can to ensure continued vitality and affordability.
Thank you.
Very truly yours,
Robert A. Scott
President

The data show that Adelphi’s 2009-10 full-time undergraduate rate is still below the 2008-09 rates at these area schools.
