How to Apply for Financial Aid image: www.FAFSA.edu.gov

FAFSA
Your first step is to obtain a copy of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications can completed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov and are available at the Office of Financial Services. Your high school should also have copies available.

Timing is critical.
The entire FAFSA should be completed as soon as possible after January 1. Filing by February 15 for continuing students and March 1 for new students maximizes your access to the different financial aid programs. Students accepted for spring enrollment should have their FAFSA completed by November 1. However, applications made after this date will be considered only if funds remain available.

The demand for certain types of assistance (which are limited) is very high. Only students who have filed their FAFSA early will be considered for these restricted funds.

You can file online or complete a paper application.
Filing online is the quickest way to apply. Returning students will receive a FAFSA renewal form in the mail from the U.S. Department of Education or an email reminder if you originally filed online.

  • We recommend you print out the Pre-Application Worksheet on the FAFSA Web site before completing your application.

  • Both the dependent student and one parent must have a Personal Identification Number (PIN) that will serve as the student and parent's electronic signature for all federal aid programs. PINs can be obtained at www.pin.ed.gov.

  • In the information-release section of the FAFSA, enter Adelphi University and our federal school code of 002666.

Completing A Paper Application
  • Mail the completed FAFSA to the address listed in the FAFSA brochure.

  • In the information-release section of the FAFSA, enter Adelphi University and our federal school code of 002666.

  • A pre-printed Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) Express Application will be mailed to you sometime after May.

Student Aid Report
You will receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) from the U.S. Department of Education approximately 3 weeks after you mail the FAFSA. If you filed your FAFSA online, your SAR will be emailed to you. The SAR summarizes the data you reported on the FAFSA. It is important to review your SAR for accuracy. Corrections can be made online at www.fafsa.ed.gov by using your PIN. If you are a dependent student, your parent must also sign the correction. Keep the mailed copy or print out the SAR for your records.

We will advise you if additional information and/or documents are needed to complete your financial aid application. To prevent delays in awarding aid, it is important that you respond in a timely manner.

The Office of Financial Services will start mailing financial aid award letters to new students beginning February 1. Award letters to continuing students will be mailed after June 1.
