Adelphi Scholarships and Grants


Institutional scholarships and grants are applicable to tuition and, in some cases, university fees. The University reserves the right to adjust the financial assistance previously awarded when these awards in combination with other sources of assistance exceed the cost of tuition and fees. Awards include, but are not limited to, VA educational benefits, external awards, and state scholarships and grants.

Adelphi University Presidential Scholarship
Presidential Scholarships are awarded to entering full-time freshmen with exceptional academic achievement and co curricular activities. Presidential scholars typically have a minimum SAT of 1800 and rank in the top 15% of their high school class.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: $17,000 -$30,000 depending upon the individual's academic profile.

Adelphi University Math and Science Initiative Award
Math and Science Initiative Awards are offered to high achieving, new, full-time freshmen students who have a declared major of biology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, environmental science, math or physics. Students must meet the minimum criteria for the presidential  scholarship, in order to receive consideration for the Math and Science Initiative Award. 

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: These awards are $2,500 per year of undergraduate study.

Adelphi University Nursing Scholars Award
Nursing Scholars Awards are offered to high achieving, new, full-time freshmen students who have a declared major of nursing. Students must meet the minimum criteria for the presidential scholarship, in order to receive consideration for the Nursing Scholars Award.

    Range of Awards: These awards are $2,500 per year of undergraduate study.

Adelphi University Deans' Award
Deans' Awards are awarded to entering full-time freshmen with very good academic performances. Ordinarily, recipients have minimum SAT scores ranging from 1580 to 1790 and rank in the top 25% of their high school class.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: $10,000 - $16,500 depending upon the individual's academic profile.

    Special Provisions:

Eagle Scout, Girl Scout Gold, and Explorer Awards
These awards are offered to new, full-time freshman students who demonstrate high academic achievement. The student may receive an academic award (Dean's or Presidential) and in addition be recognized for his/her achievement in Scouting.

    Application Process: The applicant must be an Eagle Scout, Girl Scout Gold Award recipient or an Explorer Scout and must have completed and submitted proof of receipt of the award to the Office of Admissions. A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: This award can range from $500 to $2,000 in addition to an academic award.

    Special Provisions:
    - Eagle Scout, Girl Scout and Explorer Award Terms and Conditions
      Please note that the Explorer award follows the same Terms and
      Conditions as the regular scouting awards.

Adelphi Grant-Funded Programs
Adelphi participates in three grant funded programs for students enrolled in teacher education programs in the Ruth S. Ammon School of Education. Students must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  Learn more about these Grant Funded Programs and the application process.

Adelphi Matching Scholarship programs
For students who have suffered the loss of a parent or guardian Adelphi University may match the one-time scholarship amount to any qualified Life Lessons Scholarship recipient who is accepted and enrolls at Adelphi.

Adelphi University Community College Partnership Award
The Adelphi University Community College Partnership Award is an additional $1,000 award offered to new, full-time transfer students from Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, Nassau Community College, Queensborough Community College, and Suffolk County Community College who have obtained an A.A. or A.S. degree. 

To qualify for the award, students must receive an academic or a performing/fine arts talent award. Additionally, students must enroll full time (12 or more credits) at Adelphi University. The following scholarships and awards are applicable:

  • Adelphi University Full-Time Transfer Merit Award
  • Adelphi University Academic Talent Combination Award
  • Adelphi University Talent Award
Upon receiving the award, students must enroll at Adelphi University following their graduation from Kingsborough Community College, LaGuardia Community College, Nassau Community College, Queensborough Community College, or Suffolk County Community College. Students who enroll elsewhere, and then wish to transfer to Adelphi University will not be eligible for this award
    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Award:  $1,000

The Adelphi University Transfer Merit Award for part-time students is offered to new, part-time students who demonstrate high academic achievement. For transfers, initial criteria includes a transfer G.P.A. of at least 3.3, with a minimum of 30 credits being transferred

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: This award can range from $1,000 to $3,500 depending upon the individual's academic profile.

The Adelphi University Phi Theta Kappa Award for full-time students is offered to new, full-time transfer students who demonstrate high academic achievement. For new transfers, an initial criterion includes a transfer G.P.A. of at least 3.0 and proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership

Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application, and forward proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership.

Range of Awards: This award is $500, and may be combined with other scholarship awards.

Adelphi University Phi Theta Kappa Select Award
The Adelphi University Select Phi Theta Kappa Award for full-time students is offered to new, full-time transfer students who demonstrate high academic achievement and a commitment to service in the community. For new transfers, an initial criterion includes a transfer G.P.A. of at least 3.3 and proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership.

Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and a separate Phi Theta Kappa Select application is required. Proof of Phi Theta Kappa membership must be attached with the application. Click here to apply (PDF 86KB).

Application Deadline: January 1st for spring applicants, and July 1st for fall applicants

Range of Awards: This Select Phi Theta Kappa award is $2,500 and a limited amount of awards will be awarded to new, full-time transfer students. This award cannot be combined with other Phi Theta Kappa scholarship awards.

Adelphi University Tau Sigma Award
The Adelphi University Tau Sigma Award for full-time students is offered to current, full-time transfer students who have been a member of Tau Sigma for a minimum of one semester. These individuals must demonstrate continued high academic achievement and a commitment to service in the community and Tau Sigma. Initial criterion includes an Adelphi University G.P.A. of at least 3.5 and proof of Tau Sigma membership.
Application Process: Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid. Application Deadline:January 1st for spring applicants, and August 1st for fall applicants.

Range of Awards: $500 each semester will be awarded to five (5) current, full-time transfer students, who are members of Tau Sigma. This award is a one-time award.

For students whose profiles meet the requirements for an academic award and a talent award click on the link below to view the Terms and Conditions for the following combination scholarships: Presidential Talent, Deans Talent and Transfer Talent.

The Adelphi University Talent Scholarships are offered to full-time students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the areas of theater, dance, art, or music. Students must declare a major and will be required to initially submit a portfolio or audition in their area of concentration.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: $4,000 - $9,500 based upon the individual's performance or portfolio review.

Student Success Scholarship
The annual Student Success Scholarship for Undergraduate Studies acknowledges the exceptional achievement of undergraduate students who have completed at least 30 credits at Adelphi.

Adelphi University Athletic Grants
Adelphi University Athletic Grants are offered to full-time students who demonstrate exceptional ability in the area of athletics. The student's athletic performance/record is the initial criterion for consideration of this award.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: Up to full tuition, fees, room, and board.

    Special Provisions: Students must submit a financial aid application each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) continued enrollment in full-time study (minimum 12 credits) leading to a bachelor's degree; (2) continued participation in University athletic teams; (3) cumulative grade-point average of 2.0; and (4) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive an Athletic Award letter in addition to a copy of their athletic contract and the financial assistance award summary.

Adelphi University Financial Grant
The Adelphi University Financial Grant is offered to full-time undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need. This grant does not have to be repaid to the University.

    Application Process: Students are automatically considered for a Financial Grant upon Adelphi's receipt of the processed FAFSA. To ensure maximum eligibility, all applications should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1, but not later than February 15.

    Range of Awards: The University will offer Financial Grant awards based upon individual financial circumstances.

    Special Provisions: Students must submit a FAFSA each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) the student must file the FAFSA each year by the University’s recommended filing date; (2) continued enrollment in full-time study (minimum 12 credits) in a flat rate tuition program leading to a bachelor’s degree; (3) semester grade-point average of 2.0; (4) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive a financial assistance award summary stating the amount of the award.

Fred Breithut FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Scholarships

FIRST scholarships are awarded to one full-time incoming freshman who has participated in the FIRST  FRC or FTC programs or has been a mentor for an FLL team during his/her high school career and at Adelphi are named for Mr. Fred Breithut who was a 1949 graduate of Adelphi.  In 1999, Mr. Breithut brought the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) to Long Island.


Application Process: A student is encouraged to first file an admissions application and then complete and file the Fred Breithut FIRST Scholarship Application form no later than January 1 to ensure maximum eligibility. An essay and letter of recommendation must also accompany the completed scholarship application form.

Special Provisions: Students are encouraged to submit a FAFSA each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) acceptance into and continued enrollment in full-time study (minimum 12 credits) leading to a bachelor's degree; and (2) the student must have currently participated in a qualified FIRST program; and (3) the student must maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average for renewal; and (4) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

Notification: Eligible students will receive a letter of notification from the Scholarship Committee. After filing the FAFSA, a financial assistance award summary detailing all financial aid will be mailed to the student.

Adelphi University/Friends of Oheka Otto Kahn Music Award
The Adelphi/Otto Kahn Music Award is offered to one full-time incoming freshman who is the recipient of the Otto Kahn Award in Music and who demonstrates exceptional talent in the area of music. Students must declare a major of Music or Music Education and will be required to initially submit a portfolio or audition in this area of concentration.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application, along with three teacher recommendations and a completed scholarship application. Then, complete and file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility.
    A copy of the Adelphi University/Friends of Oheka Otto Kahn application form should be submitted to Adelphi’s Admissions Office no later than January 1 to ensure maximum eligibility. Three teacher/instructor recommendations must also accompany the completed scholarship application form.

    Range of Awards: up to $10,000 based upon the individual's performance or portfolio review.

    Special Provisions:  Renewal of the award is contingent on maintaining a 3.0 undergraduate GPA. Students are encouraged to submit a FAFSA each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) acceptance into and continued enrollment in full-time study (minimum 12 credits) leading to a bachelor's degree; and (2) the student must continue to major in Music or Music Education;(3) the student must maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average for renewal; and (4) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive a letter of notification from the Scholarship Committee. After filing the FAFSA, a financial assistance award summary detailing all financial aid will be mailed to the student.

University College Grant
The University College Grant is offered to students who demonstrate financial need as determined after filing your FAFSA.

    Application Process: You are considered automatically for a University College Grant upon Adelphi's receipt of your processed FAFSA. To ensure maximum eligibility, all applications should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1, but not later than February 15.

    Range of Awards: The University will offer University College Grants based upon individual financial circumstances.

    Special Provisions: Students must submit a FAFSA each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) the student must file the FAFSA each year by the University’s recommended filing date; (2) continued enrollment in at least half-time study (minimum 6 credits) leading to a bachelor’s degree; (3) semester grade-point average of 2.0; (4) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive a financial assistance award summary stating the amount of the award.

Adelphi Timothy Costello University College Awards

Thirty years ago, Timothy Costello, then president of Adelphi University, supported the creation of the ABLE program, now University College, to help working adults to obtain their college degrees. Then, as now, the economic climate was uncertain and a college degree was a critical asset for career advancement and a tool to ensure flexibility in an unpredictable job market. To make your decision to invest in higher education just a bit easier, Adelphi University is pleased to announce the establishment of the “Timothy Costello University College Award” for University College students. 

These awards—$2,000 per year for full-time students (12 or more credits) and $1,000 per year for part-time (6-11 credits)—are available to all students who begin as University College students paying the standard University College tuition rates starting in January 2012. With the introduction of this new award program, almost $1,000,000 of federal, state and institutional grants, as well as Adelphi scholarships, will be awarded to undergraduate full and part-time University College students.

    Application Process: A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 for fall and November 1 for spring to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

    Range of Awards: These awards are $2,000 per year for full-time (12 or more credits per semester) undergraduate study and $1,000 per year for part-time (6-11 credits per semester) undergraduate study.

Alumni Award
Children or grandchildren of Adelphi alumni are eligible to receive an award up to $1,000. Be sure to indicate on your application if a parent or grandparent graduated from Adelphi University in order to receive the award.
    Application Process:
    You will be automatically considered upon receipt of your complete admissions application listing a parent or grandparent who has graduated from Adelphi. A student must first file an admissions application and are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

Alumni Award for Graduate Study
The Adelphi Alumni Award for Graduate Study is available exclusively for Adelphi undergraduate or graduate alumni. If you earned a degree from Adelphi and now are a newly accepted graduate or doctoral student in a different program for Spring 2014, Summer or Fall 2014 you may be eligible for this special award.

You may choose to take 6 credits - 11 credits per semester and receive $1,000 per semester or enroll in 12 or more credits per semester and receive $1,600 per semester at the Garden City campus or our centers in Hauppauge, Manhattan, or Hudson Valley.

Application Process: 
You will automatically be considered upon receipt of your complete graduate admissions application. Students are encouraged to file the FAFSA as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility for other sources of financial aid.

Special Provisions:
To be eligible, you must be accepted into a graduate programs and enroll as a new Adelphi graduate student in a minimum of 6 credits per semester in January 2014, or the summer or fall 2014.

Award Structure:
- 6-11 credits per semester $1,000/semester
- 12 or more credits per semester $1,600/semester

Award Terms:

  1. The level of your award will depend on you actual enrollment.
  2. This award can be applied to the costs of a maximum of 18 attempted credits, during three consecutive semesters from your date of initial enrollment.
  3. This award is not applicable to: students enrolled in contractual programs, or online programs that are offered 100% online, those who receive other forms of AU scholarships, grants, remissions or assistantships.
  4. Academic scholarships for fifth year S.T.E.P and M.B.A. programs, and other University tuition remission programs cannot be used in conjunction with the Adelphi Alumni Award for Graduate Study.

Restricted Awards (Donor Awards)
These awards are offered to full- and part-time students, on a competitive basis, whose individual profiles coincide with specific donor requirements. Restricted awards are not automatically renewable.

    Application Process: A completed FAFSA should be submitted as soon as possible after January 1, but no later than February 15 to ensure maximum eligibility. There is no separate application required.

    Range of Awards: The University will offer restricted grants and scholarships based upon individual circumstances, donor restrictions, and availability of funds.

    Special Provisions: Eligibility requirements vary with specific donor restrictions.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive a financial assistance award summary stating the amount of the award.

Scholastic Art & Writing Scholarship
Scholastic Art & Writing Scholarships are granted to full-time incoming freshmen who have been identified by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, Inc. as a recipient of a national Gold or Silver Award in the category of either Art Portfolio, Photography Portfolio or of General Writing Portfolio or Nonfiction Portfolio.

    Application Process: A student is encouraged first to file an admissions application and then complete and file The Scholastic Art & Writing Scholarship Application Form no later than March 1 to ensure maximum eligibility.

    Range of Awards: This scholarship is $1,000 in each of the three categories for Art and Writing, renewable for four years.  

    Special Provisions: Students are encouraged to submit a FAFSA each year and must meet the following minimum standards: (1) acceptance into and continued enrollment in full-time study (minimum 12 credits) leading to a bachelor's degree; and (2) the student must be a current recipient of a Scholastic Gold or Silver Portfolio award and whose name will appear on a listing from the scholarship provider to Adelphi University in March or April; (3)for the Art award students must have a successful art portfolio and must be admitted to Adelphi’s Art Department (in addition to being admitted to the University) and must declare Art as a major and (4) the student must maintain a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average for renewal; and (5) the student is not subject to any disciplinary action.

    Notification: Eligible students will receive a letter of notification from the Scholarship Committee. After filing the FAFSA , a financial assistance award summary detailing all financial aid will be mailed to the student.
