Final Exams| Regulations and Schedule

Instructors indicate their final exam requirements on syllabi or announcements distributed during the first week of class.  If a course does not require a final examination, appropriate course-related activity will be substituted at the scheduled time during finals week.  Classes may not meet at other times during finals week without written consent of the Provost.

Students are advised that:

  • No final examinations will be administered to an individual or group before the last official class meeting without written consent of the Provost.
  • No instructor may increase the time allowed for a final examination beyond the scheduled two hours without the written consent of the Provost.
  • No instructor may change the time or date of the final examination.
  • No student may be required to take more than two final examinations during one calendar day.  Students with more than two final examinations on one calendar day should go to the Office of Academic Services and Retention.
  • Postponed examinations may be requested only by students who are seriously ill or who have more than two scheduled examinations in one calendar day.  Students will make arrangements through the Office of Academic Services and Retention. 
  • Postponed examinations will be held only during the first week of the following term.
  • Instructors must offer a make-up examination to all students who were excused from the final examination due to illness or because of conflict with other examinations.
  • All students must be allowed to see their graded finals.
  • Access to graded finals should be ensured for a period of one semester after the examination was completed.
  • Completed and graded finals may not be left in public places for retrieval by students.

The Final Examination Period for each semester consists of the following:

Garden City Campus
  • Courses starting before 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, meet in the standard undergraduate time grid (M, W, F, 8-8:50 a.m., etc.; T, R, 8-9:15 a.m., etc.) converted as indicated.  Courses not meeting in the standard time grid will be found in the list of Final Examination Schedule.  The Final
  • Examination Exceptions is distributed November 13 for the fall semester and April 2 for the spring semester.  All graduate and undergraduate sections must adhere to this schedule.
  • Courses starting after 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, meet at the same time in the same room as they have all semester unless on the list of Final Examination Schedule.
  • Courses on the Weekends meet at the same time in the same room as they have all semester.
Off-Campus
  • Off-Campus Centers will post final examination schedules.
