Peer Support

library
Adelphi is dedicated to helping you succeed. The University provides a host of peer and academic services to assist you with the academic and personal challenges you may face over the course of your college experience.

Orientation Leaders, PALs (peer assistant leaders), and EXCEL mentors are dedicated to helping freshman. Other peer support includes tutors, peer educators, peer counselors, and student government groups. In addition, resident assistants, the Resident Student Association, and residence hall councils are also available to provide support to students who live on campus.

---
Orientation Leaders are students who are in good academic standing and have leadership experience. They go through extensive training and review before being assigned a group of first-year students. They willingly provide support and will answer questions from you and your parents.

PALs—Peer Assistant Leaders—are assigned to the weekly FOrE course. Selected by the Office of Student Affairs on the basis of their academic record and participation in student activities, PALs help advise first-year students and encourage them to get involved in student activities.

---
EXCEL—Entering Students eXcelling through the Contributions of Experienced Leaders—is open to students who reside on campus. It accomplishes its mission of building a ladder of success by pairing first-year students with upper class student-mentors. These mentors live on the same floor, meet with them regularly, and support them in their transition to college.
